Does Fabric Solicitation Count As Knitting?

Ok, this isn't really a knitting-related post. So, you might just want to skip right on over it and wait for the next one. I've been weaving a ton, so soon there will be a finished project post to feast your eyes on.

Until then, I've also been working on getting a "100 Good Wishes Quilt" started. As most of you know, I'm knee deep in the process of adopting a little girl from China. When a child is born in China, there is a tradition of quilt making called Bai Jia Bei, or 100 Good Wishes Quilt.

To celebrate a new life, family and friends donate to the child's mother fabric scraps from old clothing accompanied by a heartfelt wish for the baby, from which the Bai Jia Bei is then made. It is said that the luck, energy and good wishes from all of the families and friends who contributed fabric surround the child when she is wrapped in the quilt. The quilt is then passed down from generation to generation as an heirloom, forever generating warmth and love.

I would love to collect fabric squares from my knitting friends - your support has meant so much to me all throughout this adoption. If you are interested in participating, drop on over to my 100 GWQ blog to find out more.

A Friendly Competition

Even though I decided not to participate in SP9, I will take Heatherly up on her contest offering...answer to my questions are below...

1. Where is your favorite knitting spot?

Curled up on my couch, with my kitties and my husband, all of whom want to help.

2. If you suddenly could never knit again (shudder) - what would you do instead?

This is a tough one to even think about, but thankfully I have enough other hobbies (weaving, stained glass), that one of them would take my mind off what a huge loss not being able to knit would be.

3. If you could travel anywhere in the world - where would you go and why?

Another tough one - there are so many places in the world I've never been. So, I'll throw out some contenders....Ireland (to tour the castles), Italy (to tour the countryside), or Paris (to tour the Louvre).

4. When you were little - What did you want to do "when you grew up?" Are you doing it?

Well, for a while there I thought I wanted to be a neurosurgeon. But, as with most dreams of six year olds, I didn't really think about what it would take to get me there. Life took over, and that dream matured into being a writer. I'm still working on that one.

5. What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?

Dulce de Leche or Coffee.

Fated

Today was definitely Friday the 13th for me. Met my DH for breakfast downtown. Argued over where we should park. It went a little something like this...

Me - "No, don't park in the lot, there's a sign indicating 'Permit Only'."

DH - "The lot's mostly empty - I'm sure it will be fine."

Me - "We don't have a permit. It makes me nervous. Can we just park on the street?"

And so we park on the street. And when we come out, lo and behold, there's a parking ticket on the windshield. Evidently, after all the cautious contemplation of the dangers of the lot, we carelessly parked against a Buses Only curb. Sigh.

It's the first parking ticket (or any ticket for that matter) that I've ever gotten. The only sweet spot? Cars in the lot were ticketed, too.........wait for it..........for not having a permit.
